FAQ

We love questions! Here are a few we've been asked.

The Ktchn Apothecary Brand

Q: How do you pronounce "Ktchn" and why do you spell it without any vowels?

A: "Ktchn" is pronounced "Kitchen" but you can call us whatever you like.

As for the vowels, store-bought moisturizers are loaded with fillers. We use only natural extracts that benefit your skin.

The vowels in the word "Kitchen" are fillers and don't need to be there just like most of the ingredients in store-bought moisturizer.

Q: How long did it take to develop the exact Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer recipe?

A: Wow, a long time. Over 2 years and roughly 200+ different recipe modifications.

Q: Do you donate to charitable organizations?

A: Absolutely. Please contact us at hello@ktchnapothecary.com to tell us more about the organization.

Facial Moisturizer & Extracts

Q: Is the Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer Gluten Free?

A: Yes! As with most food-grade products, there may be trace amounts of Gluten in the facilities that process our extracts. However none of our extracts contain Gluten -- and our Oats are naturally Gluten Free.

Q: Should I use the Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer as an AM or PM moisturizer?

A: We suggest both in the morning and evening. If applying makeup or sunblock, wait 3-5 minutes for the Facial Moisturizer to fully absorb.

Q: Is there sunblock or SPF in the Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer recipe?

A: While many of the extracts in the Facial Oil offer mild SPF protection, when in the sun, we would recommend applying a light-weight, high SPF on top of the Ktchn Apothecary moisturizer.

Q: Why do you only use Cold-Pressed oils?

A: There are 2 ways to extract oil from their source: Chemically or by Pressing. The chemical route uses ingredients like Hexane to separate the oil from it's source. The second way is to Cold Press or squeeze the oil out of it's source (like stomping a grape to juice it). While it costs more, we prefer the non-chemical, Cold Pressed option.

Q: Are there any tree nuts in the Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer recipe?

A: Yes, we use Sweet Almond Oil in our Facial Oil.

Q: Can I add additional, personal extracts to my Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer?

A: Short answer: yes however, we wouldn't recommend it.

Long answer: The recipe for our Facial Moisturizer uses precise measurements of active ingredients. The addition of anything else would likely change the proportions negatively affecting the quality of the moisturizer.

Q: Can I use my Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer on my body?

A: Short answer: yes however, we wouldn't recommend it.

Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer extracts are ideal for your face. While we're sure your arms and legs are beautiful and perfect, they can present various challenges like callouses, stubble, or hair which can prevent the Facial Moisturizer from being absorbed.

Q: Will the Facial Oil and Beeswax make me breakout?

A: A large consideration in the selection of our curated Facial Oil blend was around sensitivity. We are proud to say that all of our extracts score a 0-2 out of 5 on the comedogenic scale meaning there is a low likelihood of increasing breakouts.

Q: Can I use my Facial Moisturizer on my child?

A: While our natural preservative is permitted for use on children over the age of 3, our Facial Moisturizer is intended for adult, cosmetic use. Please consult your child's doctor for their recommendation. We are happy to provide all of the product ingredients and information you need for this discussion.

Q: Will this help with my eczema?

A: Our Facial Moisturizer is for cosmetic use and not meant to treat any medical condition. Our goal is deliver the cosmetic benefit of softer, smoother, brighter, more beautiful skin through the use of pure, undiluted natural extracts.

Q: Can I bring my moisturizer in a carry-on bag (TSA 3-1-1 liquids rule)?

A: Yes! You Facial Moisturizer is 1.7 Fl Oz which is within the 3-1-1 guidelines. Please handle your jar with care as it is glass.

Preparation & Storage

Q: How much Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer is made in each batch and how long will it last?

A: Each batch makes around 1.7 Fl Oz of fresh Facial Moisturizer (on par with the amount found in a packaged moisturizer). Enough to last around 30 days with daily/nightly use or 60 days with daily or nightly use.

Q: Can I store my Ktchn Apothecary Facial Moisturizer at room temperature?

A: Yes! We use a plant-based, all-natural preservative made from Coconuts and Cabbage so your moisturizer will remain fresh for up to 60 days without refrigeration

Q: How long can I store my Ktchn Apothecary Welcome Kit or Replenish Kit before mixing my Facial Moisturizer?

A: For maximum freshness, store your unopened kit in a cool, dry place and make your Facial Moisturizer within 2 weeks.

Q: Will the heat-resistant Glass Beaker break in the hot water?

A: The Glass Beaker is laboratory grade borosilicate glass (which is similar to Pyrex®). This makes it vastly more heat-resistant than normal glass.

Q: Are the plastic bottles, lids, and glass jar recyclable?

A: Yes! Thank you for doing your part and recycling!

Q: How do I clean the Steel Whisk and heat-resistant Glass Beaker?

A: Wash by hand using a new, clean piece of paper towel and some dish soap. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to air dry. Avoid using a dishwasher as it may rust the Steel Whisk.

Q: I just received my Replenish Kit and I can't find my Reusable Steel Whisk or heat-resistant Glass Beaker from my original Welcome Kit. What should I do?

A: Please contact us at hello@ktchnapothecary.com

George

Q: What breed of dog is George?

A: To be honest, that's as mysterious as what's in department store & pharmacy moisturizer. George is a 5 year-old cocker spaniel, poodle, and *something else* mix that we adopted from the Humane Society.
